I have a lot of pregnant patients coming to my clinic with the main compliant of pain. We often talk about that if they are going to take anything over the counter, they need to talk this over with their OB first. We now know that not everything over the counter is safe for the fetus and can cause many issues depending on when in the pregnancy the medication is used.

I like this article describing “The Potential Dangers of Taking Medications During Pregnancy”. The author explains category of medications and give us some history of medications that were shown not to be safe during pregnancy.

I agree that during pregnancy we need to seek out massage therapy and acupuncture to help with pain and turn to over the counter pain medication as a last resort.

What if I do not want needles to be used for facial rejuvenation?

For patience’s who are sensitive to needles, microcurrent may be the answer.
Also known as electrotherapy, it has aesthetic benefits that have proven to stimulate cellular physiology and growth. Microcurrent can strengthen the muscles of the face, increase the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin, reduce edema of the face and puffiness under eyes by improving metabolism and eliminating excess fluids, diminish fine lines, counter-act dryness, hydrate and soften the skin, improve circulation enhancing skin texture and facial color, and diminish breakouts. Treatments are cumulative in effect, and can provide results by the 7th session with bi-weekly treatments. Results depend on the elasticity of the skin, stress level, diet, and lifestyle choices. A treatment series consists of 12 consecutive sessions.

$75 for each treatment which includes needles in the body, microcurrent on the face, and a head massage. These treatments last about 40 minutes

$40 for a Quick Tone. This treatment is only the microcurrent on the face.

Microcurrent Technology is the only aesthetic treatment available that can physically firm and tone the skin through muscle re-education. This is a process of a gentle “re-education” of the fine facial muscles. Microcurrent stimulates the muscles with very small amounts of electricity. Microcurrent is a specific amount of electricity that mirrors the bodies own natural current and works in harmony with the body’s electrical system.

Microcurrent impulses trigger a chemical reaction at a cellular level to increase the effectiveness of how our bodies use ATP (adenosine triphosphate), a protein that is referred to as “the energy of life”. Microcurrent mimics the electrical signals from the brain to the message center of the muscle, which is the tendon. Microcurrent stimulates the tendon thus aiding in strengthening the muscles by bringing more definition to the face and body. By reproducing the body’s own biological current we can re-establish muscle memory naturally.

For muscles to contract they need energy. That energy comes from adenosine triphosphate (also known as ATP). ATP is the only energy source that muscles have to power their activity, and these muscle fibers store only a limited supply of ATP. So, by increasing the supply of ATP to these muscle fibers, Microcurrent can plump up those slack muscles and plays a crucial role in cell metabolism. Microcurrent also enhances fibroblast activity (collagen) and protein synthesis (elastin) due to the increased activity of ATP.

Microcurrent Facial Facts

What is the Procedure of Microcurrent Facial?

While microcurrent has been used as an anti-aging technique for decades, the latest technology of microcurrent facial is a process that transmits electrical signals to the muscles of the face as well as the tissues that surround it. This is to instigate the production of scleroproteins. These signals reach deep within the layers of skin, fostering cell production, thereby, tightening and toning the skin. Soon you will realize that your skin has firmed, and your face is lifted and toned back. Also, you can see that youthful pink glow getting restored in your skin as a result of this procedure of a micro current facial. This ‘rejuvenation’ or vitality of the skin takes a short period of time, and helps avoid a number of signs of aging such as sagging skin, wrinkles, and lines. There is more, it causes no injury to the inner layer of the skin, the dermis, which many other skin-tightening treatments do. Microcurrent facial sculpting is becoming more and more prominent in leading beauty clinics across the world, and is considered to be one of the most dynamic facial sculpting treatments in the anti-aging industry.

What is Microcurrent Facial Rejuvenation?

Microcurrent facial rejuvenation or MCFR has gained prominence in a very short time, chiefly because it is innovative and non-invasive. The contours of the skin are sophisticatedly tightened, and give the face that visible lift. In MCFR, two probes of cotton tips are made to slide over certain acupuncture lines and muscles of the face with stimulating circulation. This technique is immensely effective on damaged skin that was caused by the sun, untimely aging, etc. Microcurrent probes send in a tender electrical vibration that helps in fostering a number of functions of the skin. MCFR includes a variety of nourishing techniques that revitalize the skin tone. With a combination of a number of powerful skin balancing techniques, microcurrent facial rejuvenation brings out the younger you by combating all the damage on the skin of your face.

What Are Doctors Saying About Microcurrent?

As understood from microcurrent facial reviews given by doctors, the key reason why they are recommending micro current facials is that it is a toner that appears to be immensely compatible with the amount of time spent on it. Moreover, it works in a totally different way in comparison to botox, which completely ceases the working out of muscles, thus, leading to withering. Microcurrent facial treatments will address only the superficial layer of skin, as well as the dermis, and the results are strikingly visible.

What is the Cost of Microcurrent Facial?

The painless process of a microcurrent facial may take up to a couple of hours to complete. However, there is no requirement of anesthesia doses, no recuperating time, and absolutely no side effects. If you want to avail optimal benefits of a microcurrent facial, doctors recommend at least 8-10 treatment sittings. This is because the effects of a micro current facial need to be maintained. Microcurrent facial costs may differ as it is based on a number of aspects. However, on an average, you can get a microcurrent facial treatment for approximately $100. All in all, it depends upon where you get it done from, and the kind of treatment they provide.

The use of electrodes for fostering facial muscles has gained so much popularity. Remember the usage of metals like gold, silver, and zinc, to enlighten your skin by giving it that instant glow? Microcurrent facials are prominently used by Hollywood celebrities in a tried and tested manner. Go for it, as it is ‘non-surgical’, and the results are extremely impressive.

Additional Information About Microcurrent

The cells of our bodies can be viewed as miniature batteries with their functioning being governed by low-level (Micro Current) electrical impulses. It has been theorized that these Micro Current Electrical impulses run our entire body’s physiological processes. Two German research scientists, Dr. Sakman and Dr. Neher won the Nobel Prize for their work on the response of Microcurrent on the physiology of human cellular membranes. Microcurrent’s electrical impulses, depending upon the frequencies used, would cause an opening in the “voltage sensitive cellular ion channels”.

Later it was shown that this pulsation of the cell’s membrane allowed for a process known as “Electroporation” whereby toxic material (including heavy metals) trapped inside the cell could be “electrically pulsated” out. Microcurrent became the therapy of choice in many autoimmune clinics around the world. Dr. Robert Beck of Santa Ana, California and a group at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York both did simultaneous research on the positive effects for treating AIDS, HIV and Hepatitis, Epstein-Barr and Herpes B. Users have experienced a negative surface anti>10/19/2005 after 30 days of treatment. The New York group showed that this minute electrical current (50 – 100 microamperes) altered the outer protein layers of the HIV virus so as to prevent its subsequent attachment to receptor sites in the blood. The group received a patent for their process of the application of Microcurrent impulses in cleansing blood.

In May 2003, Dr. Roderick MacKinnon and his research team further defined the mechanism by which Potassium and Sodium can enter the cell and create a balanced feedback loop. It is done through positive and negative ionic charges directed by nerve and muscle impulses and happens in a few milliseconds.

These electrical impulses are routinely measured by our Medical establishment and all your EKG’s, EMG’s, EEG’s and ECG’s measure electrical activity within our bodies. The FDA has approved Microcurrent therapy for the following conditions:

To increase local blood flow and circulation

To increase range of motion

To decrease muscular spasm

For neuro-muscular reeducation

To prevent or retard muscular tissue atrophy

For the treatment of calf (lower leg) venous thrombosis

I loved this article. It so clearly defines what is dangerous and what is tolerable in today’s world.

Some other things we should also be thinking about.

Eat organic whenever possible. Look for the USDA label. Read food product labels. We should all know what we are consuming in our food, just because it is legal does not necessarily mean it is good for our bodies.

Drink clean water and use a container. Using a container for water cuts down on garbage and you have a refreshing drink with you at all times.

I have noticed lately that I have not been paying attention to my own body. I have been taking very good care of my patients but I have been lacking in my own self-care.

Eating has been a big issue lately. I eat on the run, in my car, or I am wolfing through a meal to get what I need done.

I ran across an article talking about nutritional self-care. I learned to get the most from my food, I need to sit down and breathe. Chew my food thoroughly and enjoy what I am eating.

This is a great wake up call for me and I hope that you find this article useful in your life.

Cold and Flu season is in full swing. Do you know what to do to protect yourself? Here are some tips one how to do that:

1. Wash hands frequently. Germs are everywhere and this is an easy way to protect you.

2. If you need to cough or sneeze aim into your elbow. This way your germs are semi contained and are not on your hand.

3. Drink plenty of water and get enough sleep.

4. Increase your vitamin C, and Zinc. These vitamins help increase your immune, what a great thing.

5. Keep yourself appropriately dressed during the seasons. Flip-flops during the winter are not such a great idea, wait until summer to wear them.

6. If you do get a cold or flu, see your acupuncturist immediately, as they are great in shortening the duration of the cold and flu and helping with the symptoms.

7. If you have a fever please stay home and don’t go to work. Other people don’t need to get sick.

8. Be happy. If you are happy, you are less likely to get sick. Remember you are in charge of your health and you have the power to stay healthy.
